Any attendee to the conference can assist to the session where Dr. Jaume Anguera, NN’s CTO, will explain how to use CST Microwave Studio to embed Virtual Antenna in IoT devices (11 March, 13:00h, Barcelona).

Two days of conference and seminars will give the attendees an approach to design and simulation with different tools in an ideal design atmosphere. Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, March 05, 2020 – FRACTUS ANTENNAS has published a new application note to show how the DUO mXTEND™ antenna booster enables high-efficiency Bluetooth connection: DUO mXTEND™: Miniature and high-efficiency Bluetooth antenna“.

Small devices as smartwatches or smart meters have a lack of space, therefore, DUO mXTEND™ (NN03-320) is a tiny chip component ideal to be embedded into any small printed circuit board. This antenna booster, as it is only 7.0 mm x 3.0 mm x 2.0 mm and even more, it does not need any clearance beyond its footprint, like other traditional Bluetooth antennas.

This antenna booster has been designed for providing a top-quality Bluetooth operation, regardless of the antenna position on the device, either if the mounting of the component is at a corner of the PCB or just at the centre edge of the printed circuit board.

With more than a 70% average efficiency this miniature antenna allows the designer to reduce the size of the PCB as much as possible without losing performance, and the zero clearance beyond the antenna area leaves extra space to embed other elements nearby.

The new ONE mXTEND™, with a tiny volume of 21mm3, is designed to provide worldwide 5G and cellular IoT connectivity in a miniature and ultra-slim antenna component avoiding the usual problem with size restrictions. Barcelona, November 21, 2019 – FRACTUS ANTENNAS has released a new application note to show how Virtual Antenna™ technology enables different IoT designs so easy that it doesn’t matter the size of the printed circuit board, the antenna is always the same.

NN demonstrates how easy is to choose the antenna for an IoT project by using a unique chip antenna component, the TRIO mXTEND™ chip antenna component. Within this application note, engineers can check how the TRIO mXTEND™, the ultra-slimoff the shelf component of only 1.0 mm heightcan fit different board sizes by only adjusting its matching network. It also works in multiple frequency regions at the same time thanks to its modular, multiband and multi-port configuration.

Sierra Wireless organizes the event IoT Innovation Sumit where the IoT community and ecosystem will share the new upcoming technologies. IoT design with embedded antennas EuMW Paris

Barcelona, September 03, 2019 – FRACTUS ANTENNAS and National Instruments AWR (Microwave Office) have organized 2 workshops to show how designing a multiband antenna system for IoT is now as simple as designing the matching network during the European Microwave Week Paris. By using Virtual Antenna™ chip antenna boosters any attendee will understand how fast, cheap and easy is to create a wireless system from scratch.

There are 2 different workshop types depending on the attendee requirements:

Nordic Semiconductor launches a cellular IoT prototyping platform with embedded Virtual Antenna™

Barcelona, August 29, 2019 – Nordic Semiconductor has launched the Thingy:91, a cellular IoT prototyping platform that enables instant connectivity, both cellular and GNSS worldwide. Thingy:91 integrates Virtual Antenna™ technology, by FRACTUS ANTENNAS, through the TRIO mXTEND™ chip antenna component, using one embedded antenna component for both cellular and GNSS while providing worldwide connectivity from 700 MHz up to 2200 MHz.

Barcelona, July 04, 2019 – Why IoT devices need internal antennas? Fractus Antennas (NN) has organized a one day workshop to design, build and test, with an embedded antenna, a wireless IoT prototype platform.

This design guide “The Smart Antenna for the Smart IoT World” explains how to use the RUN mXTEND™ antenna booster as the unique chip antenna component for any IoT standard in the smaller package ever. Fractus Antennas components available now within NI AWR Software

Barcelona, March 27, 2019 – Fractus Antennas (NN) and its Virtual Antenna™ components will be available within the NI AWR Software from April 2019. Any NI AWR user can now choose from the NN Library set, the antenna component and finally implement the matching network within the frequency bands from 650MHz to 6GHz. 

This new design option, thanks to the new National Instruments and Fractus Antennas partnership, is another step forward in Fractus Antennas’ commitment to getting the wireless design and antenna integration easy and complete, to accelerate the time to market of any wireless design project matching the upcoming Internet of Things (IoT) wave.

It´s the first time any customer can complete an RF design in one step within an RF circuit design software. The antenna is treated as any other electronic component because it does not need customization anymore and, by only adjusting the matching network to the required frequency band for each application, the schematic, including the antenna, is completed. Based on NN´s Virtual Antenna™ technology, the software offers a group of [S] parameters for several wireless platforms, with different PCB/ground plane form factor and clearance area dimensions. By choosing the file with the closer specs to the device the user can implement the matching network easy and fast in just a few clicks.

The Fractus Antennas Library XML library is available directly from within the elements tab of NI AWR Design Environment software and could be from April after the first demonstration at the Edi Con China Conference (1-3 April), where any customer can attend to the Fractus Antennas workshop, “Antenna Boosters for IoT Devices”. Antenna boosters course at EUCAP Krakow

Barcelona, March 7, 2019 – The Fractus Antennas (NN) Team has organized an antenna design short course to experience how easy is going wireless in just 3 hours by using the chip antenna components called antenna boosters. Go wireless with the antenna boosters by NN means that each course attendee will apply the Virtual AntennaTM technology in a real scenario to easily design an antenna wireless system for an IoT/Mobile device. The 13th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EUCAP), this year celebrated in Krakow (Poland), is the place chosen to give the course on April 5th2019.

Thanks to its versatile nature, being a surface-mount component (SMD), the antenna booster works just like another chip, it fits seamlessly in an electronic printed circuit board the same way any other electronic component does by only adapting the matching network.  

Join now Dr. Jaume Anguera, NN’s Chief Scientist, on this course: “Antenna Boosters: Antenna Design for Mobile/IoT Devices“. The short course will introduce the audience, RF Engineers, Electronic engineers, Antenna Engineers, researchers and Ph.D. students, the technology able to replace the old customized antennas for an off-the-shelf, standardized and miniature component: the antenna booster.

All attendees to the congress can experience this antenna revolution by attending either to the practical workshop “Virtual AntennaTM design for IoT Devices” (2 April) or to the Frequency Matters Theater talk “Antenna boosters for IoT. Fractus Antennas has organized a hands-on workshop to show how designing a multiband antenna system is now as simple as designing the matching network. The antenna does not longer need customization thanks to the new generation of tiny and off-the-shelf antenna components called antenna boosters. Barcelona, February 21, 2019 – The Fractus Antennas Team is pleased to announce the new DUO mXTENDTM: the tiny antenna booster that enables full 5G connectivity and does not require further clearance area than its reduced footprint.

The new miniature, multi-port antenna booster by Fractus Antennas (NN) delivers high-speed connectivity at 5G (3400-3800 MHz) and owing to the dual port configuration it can be used at both, at the PCB corner or at the center edge of the board device, both positions working with optimum performance.

Barcelona, September 19, 2018 – Fractus Antennas (NN) launches Librarie[S], the new design tool that allows the client to complete an antenna design process for any wireless device using a standard RF CAD software: “Completing now the RF puzzle” by Fractus Antennas.

The user can now choose a library, upload the antenna file, using the range of mXTEND™ Fractus Antennas products, and finally implement the matching network within the frequency bands from 650MHz to 6GHz.

The Librarie[S] User Manual is now available, get it and follow its “Library Selection Guide” to choose the library which is closer to your application requirements. So, embedding an antenna component into a new wireless device becomes as simple as including any other electronic part into a circuit design.

The only required information to use Librarie[S] within a project is to specify the frequency range of operation and the platform and clearance dimensions to make sure the selection of the library file is the most suitable one for the wireless application to be design.

Barcelona, July 27, 2018 – Fractus Antennas has just published a new report that explains the advantages of using chip antennas instead of patch antennas for GNSS applications. Devices requiring a top GNSS (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou) are now portable, they are located everywhere and they are not always stable and facing the satellite reception.

Using chip antennas for Global Navigation Satellite Systems reception is the best choice as they feature an omnidirectional radiation pattern that enables tracking satellites in any position and orientation.

Using patch antennas for GNSS reception becomes problematic when the antenna is mounted on a small and portable tracking device, for example, IoT sensors, bikes etc. because the orientation with respect to the satellite constellation is uncertain and variable. Chip antennas are the immediate solution for the position matter, and chip antennas are also an advantage in terms of high efficiency and gain, they do not require an extra energy-consuming amplifying LNA to make the job.

Barcelona, July 10, 2018 – Fractus Antennas and Microwave Office have organized a hands-on course to show how designing a multiband antenna system is now as simple as designing the matching network. The antenna does not longer need customization thanks to the new generation of a tiny and off-the-shelf antenna component by Fractus Antennas called antenna booster. By using the booster mXTENDTM family and the Microwave Office Circuit Simulation Software the audience will learn how to make the design of IoT/Mobile devices simpler, faster and more cost-effective.

This dynamic course is divided into two different parts. A detailed presentation of the antenna-less technology fundamentals will be the main discussion of the first part, including booster specs, matching network architectures, multiband applications, among others. The second part of the session is designed to put the theory into practice. Attendees will be able to design two examples from the scratch using the Virtual AntennaTM technology on site and a unique and personal Microwave Office and AXIEM EM Simulator license that could be used for 5 more days. Fractus Antennas will provide ground plane booster samples, along with the software license, to all the participants that request them so everybody can test the antennas in their facilities after the course.

The “Multiband Chip Antenna Design Hands-on Course” will be managed by Dr. Jaume Anguera and Dr. Aurora Andujar, lead inventors of the ‘antenna-less’ Virtual Antenna™ technology at Fractus Antennas. Barcelona, July 4, 2018 – Fractus Antennas has just launched a new reference design that explains how to use the TRIO mXTEND™ chip antenna component to get the GNSS and Mobile frequency bands at the same time.

Thanks to its modular, multiband and multiport configuration the same antenna component can be adjusted to cover, among others, the frequency bands used for operating at the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou) while it covers worldwide 2G, 3G and 4G.

TRIO mXTEND™ is the newest member of the Virtual Antenna™ family and it is also the only one with a multiport configuration, this means that the chip antenna component can be tuned at two different frequency regions of interest simultaneously through the proper adjustment of the matching network.

This special component is presented in an ultra slim and off-the-shelf package of only 1.0 mm height that could be easily assembled into virtually any device.

Barcelona, April 17, 2018 – What is Virtual Antenna? What is antenna-less? Are they the same concept? Where is this new technology coming from? You can get the answer to these questions by reading the April issue of the Microwave Journal magazine. Fractus Antennas’ Virtual AntennaTM is the Fabs & Labs story of the journal this month: “Fractus Antennas: Making the Virtual Reality”.

The publication gives emphasis to the company’s lab where the engineering team develops this new technology that enables a full antenna performance in a really small package of only 5 mm x 5 mm x 5 mm. The Microwave Journal Team visited Fractus Antennas’ facilities last February, during their visit to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and they could personally check on site how the technology works by an in-house testing demonstration, including an active measurement in the anechoic chamber SATIMO Stargate 32.

Barcelona, February 1, 2018 – The Fractus Antennas Team is pleased to announce a top quality mobile antenna that enables coverage at 3G, 4G and 5G: TRIO mXTEND™.

The new TRIO mXTEND™ is a modular, multiband and multi-port antenna component that enables top-quality worldwide coverage at any mobile communication standard. Its reconfigurable and off-the-shelf nature allows multiple architectures so the antenna component can be assembled into any mobile or IoT device.

This chip antenna component has been designed for providing a top quality mobile operation in 3 different frequency regions: 698-960 MHz, 1710-2690 MHz and 3400-3800 MHz. In addition, TRIO mXTEND™ is presented in an ultra slim component of only 1.0 mm height that enables an easy placement into any device.

Barcelona, January 23, 2018 – Dr. Jaume Anguera has been selected to lead the Fractus Antennas research team. Anguera, previously R&D Manager within the company, has been promoted to Chief Scientist becoming the top responsible for researching and developing new breakthrough technologies in the antenna field.

Jaume Anguera is an inventor with more than 120 granted patents, in particular, he is the lead inventor of the Virtual Antenna™ “antenna-less” technology together with his peer colleagues Dr. Aurora Andujar and Dr. Carles Puente at Fractus Antennas. The range of mXTEND™ products based on the Virtual Antenna™ technology, created by Jaume Anguera and his colleagues, enables full functional multiband wireless connectivity to smartphones and IoT devices through miniature and off-the-shelf chip components that replace traditional customized antennas.

New reference design for Global Navigation Systems

Barcelona, Dec 14, 2017 – As a market leader in antenna technology for wireless solutions, Fractus Antennas introduces a new reference design where the Virtual AntennaTM technology appears as one of the best choices for covering all the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) frequencies, including GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou.

Using the RUN mXTENDTM antenna booster, part of the new generation of miniature and standard components, the result is a full satellite navigation performance that allows location signal usability anywhere in the world.

This new reference design document shows how the antenna component covers this full performance with more than 80% of efficiency and all kept in a really small antenna booster (12.0mm x 3.0mm x 2.4mm). It also demonstrates this whole frequency coverage by testing it into two different evaluation board sizes, so the results can be checked for devices with different volumes.

Sharkfin Application

Barcelona, November 15, 2017 – Fractus Antennas has developed a new use for the All mXTEND™ antenna booster:  a Sharkfin reference design that provides a multiband operation with high gain and high-efficiency performance.

Sharkfin devices are now able to operate with a wireless multiband and worldwide performance, covering also low-frequency bands like LTE700. Operating in full mobile communication standards, the technology is mainly based on replacing the conventional antenna for miniature, standard and off the shelf antenna booster components. These antenna-less wireless components provide operation in different frequency regions through a single input/output port.

Fractus Antennas October Cover Feature

Antenna-less technology hits the cover of MWJ.

Barcelona, October 25, 2017 – Fractus Antennas’ Virtual Antenna™ technology appears in the current Cover Feature on the Microwave Journal, both online and offline versions.

The team, Jaume Anguera, Aurora Andújar and Carles Puente, has prepared an article to introduce the Virtual Antenna Technology to microwave engineers, as the antenna-less technology “is a technology which makes antenna design much more similar to filter design than to conventional antenna engineering”, Jaume Anguera notes.

The multiband capacity of these antenna booster components brings to any engineer a radical design innovation which is explained in detail in the article under the title: “Antenna-Less Wireless: A Marriage Between Antenna and Microwave Engineering”.

As part of the company´s client commitment and the opportunity to introduce the antenna-less technology in a more visual way, the market leader in miniature antenna solutions has launched a series of 3 video tutorials to show customers and partners how easy it is to embed an antenna booster component into any IoT/mobile device.

The main advantage is that no antenna customization is needed, and watching the 3 videos, each only 1 minute long, every designer will be able to integrate the antenna booster into virtually any device by simply designing a matching network. After the matching network is created the same antenna can operate across multiple communication standards.
